Founded in 1964 by Pete Douglas, this nonprofit concert series takes its name from a legendary beach party where guests danced to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos while dynamite exploded on the shore. Concerts are held inside the Douglas Beach House, a small venue perched directly on Miramar Beach in Half Moon Bay with ocean views through floor-to-ceiling windows. The intimate room has hosted jazz and classical luminaries including Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Betty Carter, Dexter Gordon, Etta James, and the Kronos Quartet. Now run by Douglas's daughter Barbara, the series presents weekend afternoon concerts of jazz, classical, and world music in what may be the most dramatically sited listening room on the West Coast.
