Originally built in 1905 as the Hill Opera House, where Harry Houdini and Enrico Caruso once performed, the Phoenix Theater has anchored downtown Petaluma through fires, closures, and rebirths for over a century. The 725-capacity all-ages venue was saved from demolition in the late 1990s by local tech entrepreneurs who established it as a nonprofit community center. Its stage has launched countless careers, with early shows by Green Day, Metallica, Arcade Fire, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Primus. Today the Phoenix programs punk, indie rock, metal, and hip-hop alongside youth arts and wellness programs, making it one of the North Bay's most vital all-ages rooms.
