Opened on January 2, 1929 as the New Sequoia Theatre, this Moorish and Gothic-styled movie palace was designed by Reid and Reid architects and purchased by the Fox West Coast chain within months of its debut. After a 1950 renovation pivoted the 1,100-seat theater toward live performance, it hosted artists including Neil Young, BB King, Tony Bennett, Etta James, Chris Isaak, and Melissa Etheridge. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1993, the Fox Theatre anchors downtown Redwood City's entertainment district alongside its smaller sibling venue, Club Fox. Its ornate two-floor interior, with architectural details gathered from European venues, makes it one of the most visually striking concert halls on the Peninsula.
