Bimbo's 365 Club has been a San Francisco institution since 1931, when Agostino Giuntoli opened it as a speakeasy during Prohibition. The venue moved to its current North Beach location in 1951, taking over the former Bal Tabarin nightclub with its original Art Deco interior designed by Timothy Pflueger. The room seats about 685 in a supper club configuration, with tiered platforms, cabaret tables, and a curved stage. The famous Girl in the Fishbowl illusion, a signature attraction since the beginning, still occasionally performs. Rita Hayworth danced in the chorus line here in the 1930s. Today the Giuntoli family continues to operate the venue, booking rock, jazz, and pop acts alongside private events. The red velvet, vintage chandeliers, and period details create an atmosphere of old Hollywood glamour that no modern venue can replicate.
