Madrone Art Bar is a Divisadero Street institution that doubles as art gallery and neighborhood bar with a legendary Monday night party. The intimate 100-capacity room fills quickly for Motown Mondays, a dance party that's been running for years. The rest of the week brings DJ nights and occasional live performances, with rotating art on the walls providing visual interest. The happy hour draws neighborhood regulars; late nights bring dancers. The decor is eclectic, the drinks are strong, and the crowd is there to have fun. It's more bar than music venue, but the commitment to programming makes it a destination rather than just another watering hole.
