SFJAZZ Center opened in 2013 as the first building in America constructed specifically for jazz performance and education. Designed by Mark Cavagnero, the 35,000-square-foot facility sits at the corner of Franklin and Fell in Hayes Valley, anchoring the city's performing arts district. The main performance space, the Robert N. Miner Auditorium, seats up to 700 in a flexible configuration that can be adjusted for different show formats. The sound system is world-class, the acoustics are pristine, and the sightlines work from every seat. Beyond the main hall, the Joe Henderson Lab hosts smaller performances and educational programs. The programming brings in the biggest names in jazz alongside rising stars and cross-genre collaborations. It's an all-ages venue with a full restaurant and bar. For serious jazz fans, there's simply no better room in the Bay Area.
