Indexical

Founded in Brooklyn in 2011 and relocated to Santa Cruz in 2015, Indexical is a nonprofit dedicated to experimental and avant-garde music. In 2021 the organization opened a permanent venue and gallery at the Tannery Arts Center, a converted industrial complex on the city's north side. The intimate space hosts around 60 performances and workshops a year, almost all of them well outside mainstream expectations, from drone and noise to contemporary composition and sound art. For adventurous listeners on the Central Coast, Indexical is the only dedicated home for music that pushes boundaries.
