Opened in January 2013 on the Stanford University campus, Bing Concert Hall is an 842-seat venue designed by Richard Olcott of Ennead Architects with acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota of Nagata Acoustics, who also shaped Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The oval hall arranges vineyard-style seating in terraces surrounding the stage, placing every seat within 75 feet of the performers. Stanford Live's programming spans classical, jazz, world music, and cross-genre collaborations, with inaugural season artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. The hall's adjustable acoustic curtains allow it to tune for everything from unamplified chamber music to amplified contemporary performances.
