Founded on New Year's Eve 1986 by a collective that included Maximum Rocknroll founder Tim Yohannan, 924 Gilman is a volunteer-run, all-ages, nonprofit music club in West Berkeley with a 300-person capacity. The venue famously served as the launching pad for Green Day, Operation Ivy, Rancid, AFI, and the Offspring, helping ignite the 1990s punk revival. It remains collectively organized with no single owner, and all door revenue is split evenly between bands and the venue. Gilman hosts more than 20 shows a month and is the last venue of its kind in California, a living artifact of DIY punk culture.
