Gasa Gasa

Gasa Gasa opened in 2013 inside a converted cinder block pipe warehouse at 4920 Freret Street, its sonically engineered interior deliberately built without right angles or parallel walls to optimize acoustics. The name is Japanese slang for "doing too many things at once," fitting for a venue that doubled as a recording studio, gallery, and film screening room while booking everything from metal to folk to experimental hip-hop. The club helped catalyze Freret Street's post-Katrina renaissance and served as an incubator for bands from nearby Tulane and Loyola. After closing during the pandemic and changing hands, Gasa Gasa reopened in early 2025, resuming its role as the Uptown neighborhood's primary home for indie and alternative music.
