A Frenchmen Street institution since the 1990s, Apple Barrel Bar is a no-cover dive bar at 609 Frenchmen that books live music seven nights a week. The narrow shotgun-style room holds maybe 50 people, putting the audience practically on top of the performers. Programming leans heavily into jazz, blues, and roots music, with sets starting in the early evening and running past midnight. The bar is cash-only, pours stiff drinks, and draws a mix of locals and tourists looking for an intimate, unpretentious live music experience in the heart of New Orleans's most celebrated music corridor.
