Owner Jay Meduri opened Poor House Bistro on July 4, 2005, in his grandparents' house on Autumn Street, importing the flavors and sounds of New Orleans to San Jose. The venue books live blues seven days a week, 363 days a year, with a mix of local regulars and national touring acts alongside a Sunday "School of the Blues" jam. When Google purchased the surrounding land, Meduri had the entire building physically moved several blocks north to its current home in San Jose's Little Italy neighborhood. The funky, ramshackle interior, Cajun-Creole menu, and nonstop live music have earned national recognition, including a Keeping the Blues Alive award from the Blues Foundation.
