Built in 1936 in Spanish Mission style through a partnership between the City of San Jose, the Public Works Administration, and local benefactors, the San Jose Civic is a 3,036-seat dual-level auditorium that underwent a major renovation before reopening in 2012. Its stage has hosted The Rolling Stones, The Who's first U.S. headlining tour in 1968, Barbra Streisand's debut concert tour in 1963, and Bob Dylan with the Hawks in 1965. With state-of-the-art sound, HD video, and a 112-by-35-foot stage, the Civic remains Silicon Valley's premier large-format concert venue. The building's restored Mission-style architecture gives the room a grandeur that modern arenas cannot replicate.
